What’s been happening & coming up involving the Travellers Rest

Family Fun Day

Our annual family fun day was a success and the sun shone all day for us. There were lots of different activities for children and adults to take part in. Lots of fun was had. The live music went down a treat. Special mention to Sarah, Helen, Richard, Darren, Christine Haswell, Judith & Helen and to some of the mountain rescue team for volunteering to help we couldn't have done it without you. Thank you very much. The total raised was £545.80. Thank you very much to all who kindly donated lots of amazing prizes for the raffle & tombola. Finally thank you to all those who attended. We hope you had a great time whilst helping raise funds for our charities.

MacMillan Coffee Morning

A little later than usual coffee morning which is usually held on the last Friday of September. As the last Friday of a month is a bacon sandwich, cake and hot drinks in the village hall I decided to move the date again this year. We raised £410!! A huge well done to Helen Bowler for getting this up and running and holding the fort whilst I had to dash off for an emergency appointment. So proud of you Helen. This was the second MacMillan event held at the Travellers Rest this year. We hosted one for Richard Wright with his son & daughter in honour of his wife Gwyneth. For those who don’t know Gwyneth was an artist. Richard and his family decided to sell some of Gwyneth's art work to raise money for Macmillan & Herriot Hospice. Both of these charities took great care of Gwyneth. It was decided that they would hold a Macmillan coffee morning with a selection of Gwyneth's art work. They raised a grand total of £1250! This was split amongst the two charities. Well done Richard it was an honour to assist you.

Leek Show/Club

Well what can I say to Sarah & Helen other than WELL DONE!! The lovely ladies took on running the leek club last year and what a great success it has been.

They held the leek show in the village hall on 6th September. There were around 17 competitors with lots of leeks and fresh produce on display. There was also a cake competition with a wonderful selection of cakes.

A great day was had with lots of people popping in to see the lovely selection of produce.

The day ended with a presentation of awards. The winner of the best leek was Helen Bowler and the winner of the best pair of leeks was Bob Terry. Congratulations to all those who took part. The new leek club had their first meeting for next year on Tuesday 30th September. If anyone wishes to join or would like to make any enquiries about the produce for the show next year they meet on the last Tuesday of each month (not December) at the pub at 7pm. They are a friendly welcoming bunch so please feel free to pop in and have a chat.

Scarecrow Competition

A new annual event took place this Halloween. Skeeby Village Scarecrow Competition. There were 19 scarecrows around the village. An amazing standard too!! Well done to all who took part. The winner this year was Jorge Helmanis. Well done Jorge. Prizes were also given to six other competitors as runners up.  We will be running this competition again next year. Jorge will hold the trophy until then(once it arrives) Suggestions for a new theme would be greatly received. Hopefully you managed to see a few of the scarecrows on display.
